Commuters are Bad Bees!

I am an advocate for the bees and all pollinators, if we’re being completely inclusive here. Bees do more than 75% of the pollinating for the entire Earth with some help from wasps, beetles, birds, and even bats to finish the tremendous job. Am I the only one that's been giving all the pollinating credit to bees and wind without even the slight fathom that they must have some help? I can be so naive sometimes...

Now, I started with that because I believe there has been a new pollinator I also didn't know existed that receives none of the credit and may be to blame for those recently developed fall allergies: cars. Cars are covered in pollen during all those spring and fall months and those same cars travel regularly to different areas. Some people even commute to another state five days a week! With so many people commuting long distances, pollen is traveling further, farther, and faster than ever and our allergies are along for the ride -- Daft Punk basically wrote the song about it.

Growing up, I didn’t have seasonal allergies and only developed them in college which I attribute to living in a new, rural area. My allergies since have slowly gotten worse and I truly attribute this to the intense amount of pollination that cars are doing ever so quickly. Bees venture maybe four or five miles from their hive, while commuters are traveling thirty, forty, sometimes more than fifty miles at least five days per week. Luckily, there are more bees than cars but we’re dealing with apples and Ninja Bullets here.

We need less commuters overall to help preserve the environment, but we especially need less commuters because they are creating insane allergies. If you are a commuter, I don’t blame you directly, but now that you know your butterfly effect, there are some ways you can prevent allergies from causing monsoons. You could clean your car off daily, find work closer to home, or use mass transportation. This is an ode to bees and those who walk locally.

Obviously these are just mere suggestions and may not be an option for you, but every bit counts! #SaveTheBees #Pollinators #EcoFriendly #WFH #Home #BadBees
